The Radiation Therapy Technologist ensures accurate patient set-up and delivers a planned course of radiation therapy effectively, safely and with excellent quality.
Patient Management
- Implement and evaluate the delivery of safe and quality radiation treatment.
- Provides health education to cancer patients and their care providers.
- Explains and clarifies whenever necessary to the patient’s family/care providers their role in the promotion of therapy and recovery.
- Provides appropriate instructions regarding tests and procedures.
- Collaborates with the medical physicist, radiation oncologist and other involved medical personnel in the planning and delivery of treatment.
Technical Responsibilities
- Conducts daily test runs and routine checks of the CT-simulator and Linear Accelerator machines and ensures their basic operational safety, mechanical and radiation accuracy.
- Safely utilizes the Linear Accelerator, CT simulator and other equipment in the planning and delivery of treatment.
- Ensures that appropriate radiation safety procedures and protection, implemented to safeguard patients and co-workers.
- Analyzes and carries out doctor’s orders in conformity with the existing protocols and legal limitations.
- Construct custom made radiotherapy blocks according to the treatment plan.
- Provides assistance to the medical physicist during quality assurance.
- Performs a wide variety of procedures in the facility including but not limited to CT Simulation, Conventional Radiotherapy, 3-Dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy (3DCRT), Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Image-guided Radiotherapy (IGRT), Intraoperative Radiotherapy (IORT), Intraoperative Electron Radiotherapy (IOERT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), Stereotactic Radiotherapy (SRT), Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT), Total Body Irradiation (TBI), Total Skin Electron Irradiation (TSEI), Adaptive Radiotherapy (ART), Respiratory Gated Radiotherapy (4-DRT), Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT)
Collaboration
- Creates and maintains therapeutic environments by providing privacy, comfort, and safety.
- Participates in cost containing measures.
- Participates in the formulation, revision, or modification of procedures and techniques to improve workflow.
- Communicates and acts as liaison between patient, physician, and other members of the healthcare team.
Records Management
- Maintain files and radiotherapy records and ensure availability when needed but keep patient confidentiality at all times.
- Practices standard and accurate recording and reporting; and ensuring that all patients’ medical records are complete and properly accounted for.
- Ensures that inventory of medical supplies and materials is updated regularly.
Reporting
- Evaluates care and treatment rendered and reports pertinent observation findings to the members of the healthcare team.
- Ensures that superiors are informed regarding problems/ issues in patient care within the unit.
- Reports to the department supervisor of any damage/losses incurred in the unit.
- Reports to the department supervisor all defects/problems of machines/ equipment and ensures regular maintenance of these.
Professional and Administrative Duties
- Assists and helps in the orientation of newly hired radiation therapists.
- Ensures functionality, maintenance and availability of supplies, equipment, and facilities necessary for patient care.
- Maintains a safe environment for the patients and their families/care providers.
- Performs other related duties that may be assigned.
- Adheres to unit policies, work instructions, and code of discipline.
- Maintains professionalism and accountability at all times.
- Complies with institutional attendance guidelines regarding leave notification and promptness in reporting for duty.
- Practices in accordance with the Legal Principles and Code of Ethics in making personal and professional judgments.
- Adheres to ethico-legal considerations in the provision of safe and quality delivery of radiation treatment.
- Applies ethical reasoning and decision-making process to address situations of ethical distress and moral dilemma.
- Adheres to established norms of conduct based on the regulatory and other institutional requirements relevant to safe radiation therapy practice.
- Protects clients’ rights based on “Patient’s Bill of Rights and Obligations.
- Implements strategies or policies related to informed consent as it applies in multiple contexts in cancer care.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Radiologic Technology
- Active PRC License as a Radiologic Technologist
- Knowledgeable in CT Simulation, Linear Accelerator, and Brachytherapy
- At least two (2) years clinical work experience in Radiation Oncology / Radiotherapy
- Willing to work in Arca South, Taguig City
