Operating Room Manager

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Includes:

  • The ASC Department Manager is responsible for carrying out full administrative responsibility and authority for the entire nursing service.
  • Assumes full responsibility for the development of nursing policies and systems, also participates in formulating policies in developing and evaluating programs and services of the Ambulatory Surgical Center and the Institution as well

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A.      Principal Functions:

1.      To ensure quality nursing care is provided to individuals

1.1.   Design, formulate and implement policies and procedures based on standards and shared practices

1.2.   Formulate policies in developing and evaluating unit programs and services

1.3.   Provide recommendations for revision and improvement of existing policies and procedures

2.      Plans, directs, organizes, controls and coordinates activities of the Nursing Service

2.1.   Prepare annual and mid-year operating plan to provide adequate personnel, equipment and resources for the unit

2.2.   Conduct monthly unit meeting to communicate management directives and discuss unit performances, issues and resolutions for further improvement

2.3.   Issues memorandum pertaining to operational matters

3.       Ensure manpower services meets the requirement and objectives of the Unit

3.1.   Analyze staffing compliment and submit recommendations for additional staff budget

3.2.   Coordinate with the nurse supervisor in preparing training module

3.3.   Interview and screen applicants and give recommendations to the medical director and/or his assistant

3.4.   Analyzes and evaluate unit and individual performances to ensure that standards are met

4.      Handle conflict and provide resolutions and recommendations for improvement

4.1.   Identify areas of concerns in the department to improve patient care

5.       Monitor proper allocation and utilization of stocks and supplies

5.1.   Reduce cost of sale by proper allocation

5.2.   Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, efficiency, environmental concerns, and cost in budget allocation and evaluation of product prior to procurement

5.3.   Coordinate with purchasing department on product bidding and evaluation to arrive at the most cost-effective products to purchase

6.      Maintain proper collaboration and coordination with interdisciplinary group

6.1.   Attends division and medical department meetings and discusses matters concerning services

7.      Ensure proper scheduling of OR cases and procedures. He/she is empowered to accept, cancel or re-schedule all surgical proposals based on the availability of personnel and schedule slot

8.      Provide employee satisfaction, retain employability and lead power empowerment

8.1.   Recommends personnel for promotion or appointment and builds staff confidence to be able to perform assigned task

8.2.   Recommends personnel for administrative disciplinary action depending on performance counseling outcome

8.3.   Submit budget for training of staff nurses for competency improvement

8.4.   Communicates to the Medical Director and/or his Assistant the needs and interests of nursing personnel

9.      Implement company and nursing service dress code; maintain a neat personal appearance

10.  Carries full administrative authority and responsibility for entire Nursing Service

10.1.                    Receives all memorandum concerning department

10.2.                    Approve department requisitions

10.3.                    Customer needs and feedback are communicated to the Management

B.      Other related tasks or functions:

1.      Adheres to infection prevention and control standards

2.      Performs other related duties required by the Medical Director and his/her Assistant from time to time

3.      Undertakes housekeeping and performs 5S in work areas; observes and practices safety rules and regulations

4.      Observe and comply with the existing rules, policies and regulations

 

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

    • Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing
    • Professional Regulations Commission licensed
    • Preferably with post-graduate course in Master of Arts in Nursing
    • Nurse to Minor and Major OR Procedures: Managerial experience in the Operating Room handling major and minor procedures in different cutting specialties.
    • At least 5 years work experience in Clinical Nursing
    • Certification and training in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support
    • Certification in Intravenous Therapy Training
    • Member of the Philippine Nurses Association, Inc.
    • Member of Operating Room Nurses Association
