DUTIES &RESPONSIBILITIES
I. DRUG TESTING
A. Specimen collection
- Prepares and secures all collection supplies, materials and record.
- Receives the CCF form
- Verify the donor’s identification.
- Completes the CCF.
- Explains the basic procedure to the client/ donor/ subject regarding the specimen collection procedure
- Performs only one specimen collection at a time;
- Handles and transports the specimen correctly;
- Accomplishes Memorandum for Record (MFR) (DOH supplies this form);
- Ensures the completeness and accuracy of patient records in IDTOMIS (Drug Testing System);
- May refer to the Med Lab Manager as the need arises.
B. Specimen Analysis
- Executes drug test services using equipment and software authorized by DOH (IDITOMIS) for drug testing;
- Ensures the maintenance of records and pertinent documents;
- Receives specimen for labeling and processing;
- Prepares specimens and all the materials for analysis;
- Ensures proper functioning and security of equipment within the section;
- Encodes, interprets, records, releases and sign out results;
- Communicates with accredited confirmatory drug testing laboratory for further examination of positive results;
- Maintains patient confidence and protects the hospital by keeping confidential results;
- Ensures that all legal and regulatory requirements of drug testing are complied with;
- Complies with IMS standards;
- May refer to the Med Lab Manager as the need arises.
II. GENERAL TASKS
1. Provide exceptional patient care and customer service
2. Perform duties and responsibilities including all required examinations in accordance to the established SOP of the laboratory section:
- HEMATOLOGY
- CLINICAL MICROSCOPY/PARASITOLOGY
- CLINICAL CHEMISTRY/IMMUNOLOGY
- CYTOLOGY/HISTOPATHOLOGY
- BACTERIOLOGY
- DRUG TESTING
3. Ensures Quality Control to provide high quality in the laboratory service according to the specified standards and procedures.
4. Collect and prepare blood, urine and tissue samples for analysis while observing standard precautions.
5. Ensures traceability of all specimens collected and processed in the laboratory.
6. Provide accurate test results and strictly adheres to protocols focusing on maintaining confidentiality at all times.
7. Perform all aspects of patient care in a laboratory environment that optimizes patient safety with minimal medical/health care errors.
8. Maintain a safe and clean working environment by adhering to safety procedures and infection control protocol to prevent laboratory hazards
9. Ensures regular inventory system of all laboratory reagents/ supplies and preventive maintenance and calibration of equipment/machine
