The Intravenous Therapy Nurse is responsible for performing all intravenous therapy treatments and providing direct nursing care to patients. |
II. OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION
To ensure the effective administration of intravenous medication and ensuring that excellent patient care is being provided during therapy sessions. |
III. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Patient Assessment 1. Responsible for initial patient assessment and development of care plan. 2. Carries out Doctor’s orders with strict compliance. 3. Provides health teaching to patients to manage expectations and provide excellent health care service. B. IVT Administration 1. Prepares and sterilizes all equipment necessary for procedure. 2. Conducts proper site location of insertion, ensuring minimal discomfort to patients and identifying good locations for insertion. 3. Provides supportive care and administration of chemotherapy, blood components, fluid and electrolyte replacements and other oncology treatments as prescribed. 4. Ensures proper flushing and dressing as required by the patient’s situation. 5. Monitors patient response to treatment and reports status and changes to referring doctor. C. Infection Control and Emergency Response 1. Strict compliance of infection control policies, taking note of possible infections and complications and immediately informing the doctor. 2. Responds promptly and appropriately to emergency patient needs. D. Administrative 1. Charts and records patient information for record-keeping. 2. Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to government guidelines and regulations. E. Other Related Tasks or Functions: 1. Performs any other functions and tasks that may be assigned by the Head- IVT. 2. Strictly observes good housekeeping and cleaning chores in work areas. 3. Observes and practices safety rules and regulations (Performs 5S) strictly. F. KNOWLEDGE NEEDED

H. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
· Graduate of BS Nursing · Licensed Nurse under the Professional Regulations Commission · 1-2 years experience in IVT and/or Dialysis · Licensed Intravenous Therapist · Updated Basic Life Support and Advance Cardiac Life Support certification. · With background in infection control practices · Preferably with ISO training, but not required. |
